Union Square at Geary
Aug 19, 2017 - September 30, 2017
The Magic Bus is a colorfully painted hippie style bus outfitted with a full sound system and video projectors. At times screen lower over the windows turning the bus into a moving movie theater that shows documentary footage of San Francisco’s the Summer of LOVE, the Human Be-In in Golden Gate Park and other seminal events such as the Civil Rights movement, as well as swirling light shows and psychedelic imagery.
The Magic Bus boards at Union Square and visits Chinatown, North Beach, Haight Ashbury and makes a stop at the Conservancy of Flowers in Golden Gate Park before passing by San Francisco’s City Hall on its way back to Union Square. A trippy goddess guide adds commentary to the audio production that features many of the voice of the ‘60s. Allen Ginsberg, Allan Watts, Jerry Garcia, among many more and of course lots of ‘60s music.
Busses played a significant role in shaping the events of the ’60s from Rosa Parks, the Montgomery bus boycott, the Freedom Riders to Ken Kesey’s riotously painted bus named Furthur.
Here’s your chance to celebrate the ‘60s in San Francisco by taking a trip on a tripped out Magic Bus.
As Ken Kesey was famously purported to have said, “Either you’re on the bus or you’re off the bus.”
